Was This School Year Better?

As the school year comes to an end, I have finally come to my consensus on what I thought about this school year.

It went okay. It wasn’t the best school year, but schools did the best they could.

To state the obvious there was that one change the school was online! All students had to switch from in-person school to online, and it was such a drastic alteration.

Students and teachers were all adapting to the new school year that took place on Canvas and WebEx, just trying to get the hang of everything. It did come as a change because now all students, I included, had to adapt to everything new.

I never did online school before, so there was some difficulty trying to handle everything. There was a lot of miscommunication and independence, meaning students had to manage everything on their accounts.

I think it was challenging because students are so used to having teachers tell them what to do. When everything is on your record it just gets a little overwhelming and assignments will start to pile up.

There was nothing essentially wrong with the school year, I just think at some point a lot of things got very forceful. There were a lot of stressful moments I can recall. Most stressful moments did come from procrastination, but that’s just inevitable in teenagers.

Honestly, there was not much that the school could do. This was the best safest option schools had and our school did the best they could.

Some teachers were understanding about everyone’s at-home situations and the limitations that students may have faced. The teachers made it feel like that the students were right in the classroom with them.

Teachers never wanted students to feel like they’re missing out on a whole grade in school. They adopted new ways to try and communicate with students and try to spark a relationship even through the computer screen.

I am very grateful for those teachers. They’ve made an impact on this school year that will stick around for a while.

All in all, the school year was okay. It wasn’t the ideal school year for some, but it was the best thing, and it had to happen so there was no way of escaping that. Now everyone should get vaccinated so next school year there is hope to see everyone again.
