Pete Madden, a new English Teacher here at Gunderson, wants to make sure that his students are his priority. His goal is for his students to “enjoy the class and also learn and take with them what they need for the very next step.”

Madden has been teaching for 16 years, starting in San Diego before teaching at Gilroy High, Lincoln, and now Gunderson. He grew up in San Diego and attended San Diego State University, where he studied English and also took theatre classes. “[I had] a lot of fun at San Diego State, a lot of fun memories,” Madden said.

He loves to play and watch baseball, basketball, and football. Madden has been to every single MLB stadium, “collecting them” as he goes. Keeping the ticket stub, getting a program, and taking photos in front of the seats were things he got to experience all across the country. Madden also writes novels in his free time. He finished one over the summer and is hoping to get it published soon.

Gunderson has treated him pretty well so far with friendly staff and a nice place to spend the school day. This year, Madden will teach two periods of Accelerated English 3/4 for sophomores, and 4 periods of English 1/2 for freshmen. In the spring, he will be out on the course coaching the school golf team, another hobby of his.
