All freshman have to go through the transition of moving from middle school to high school. The freshman also have to find their way around school which takes time to get used to.

Those transitions may be easy for some students who aren’t taking leadership. But for the ones who are taking leadership, it’s a whole different story. Leadership is a group made up of students from every grade class That teaches confidence and responsibility skills. Students of leadership are responsible for putting together rallies, dances, and spirit weeks.

They also represent our school in many different ways. The freshman in leadership are involved with Gunderson a lot more than any regular freshman. The students in leadership have to deal with pressure and time restraints in order to finish projects that are not only for leadership but for the whole school to enjoy.

Taking leadership as a freshman could change anyone’s high school experience because it teaches them how to become a leader.

This year’s Freshman Class President, Charlotte Campbell said, “It [leadership] really helped me learn how to be a leader and helped me get over my fears of public speaking.”

In leadership, students work with others from all grade levels. That’s something that most freshman aren’t able to do because they are usually put into classes with other freshman.

Working with other grades is a great way to make new friends that you could have possibly not even became friends with if you weren’t in Leadership.

“Leadership has been a fun experience,” said Campbell. “I think it has made me more social as a freshman and it helped me meet new people in all grades.”

Freshman Yaremi Perez, who is in leadership, said, “Leadership has affected my freshman year by giving me another point of view in this school.”

“It’s made me more school spirited and involved,” Perez said.

Leadership’s freshman Vice President Leah Medina said, “Leadership has affected my freshman year because it helped me become a better presenter and spokeswoman.”

“It also helped me make more friends and talk to people that I probably wouldn’t have talked to if it weren’t for this class.”
