“I think my high school years were absolutely the toughest years. I definitely battled the most depression during high school, and that was because of a rape that happened when I was a 9th grade student. Also, several years of an abusive step father. That took a lot of time and a lot of therapy to get through. I think the most interesting part about that is going through all of that and coming out stronger. I went to therapy and took medication for as long as you needed to, and I think the silver lining of that is now that gives me the ability as someone who works with high school students to help when I see that students are maybe struggling in the same ways I was. For me, I was able to choose a profession where all of that bad, I am now able to use for good.”
