By sleepless nights and sleepy mornings, ELA teacher Jenni Chang has been teaching at Gunderson for more than 20 years. She’s an ELA teacher helping students learn a language they’ve never came across.

Mrs. Chang came from Taiwan in the 1960’s to the United States not knowing the full language. She says that, “She doesn’t miss it because this is her home.”

Mrs.Chang has been teaching here at Gunderson since 1994. She enjoys singing, reading, cooking, being in a choir, and playing the piano, and she is also married and has two daughters.

To start off, she wanted to become an ELA teacher, “Because I myself had trouble learning the new language. I feel passion for the kids and the language.”

She majored in English and already had her Master’s Degree, but it required more work to become what she is now. She took another 2 years of school, and 1 year getting her teaching credential. Mrs. Chang went to school for 10 years to learn the English language, and she studied late because she was “afraid of failing.”

Now, students coming from all over over the world are being helped from Mrs.Chang to learn the new language.
