Coming into high school I knew I definitely wanted to do a sport. I had a highly  competitive drive and was very athletic. I just wasn’t sure what sport to do.

I was interested in track and field, volleyball, softball, and soccer, and so I ended up choosing track and field.

Joining the team was a huge step for me, going in I was nervous but ready to learn something new and hopefully succeed in it.

Joining a team can change your lifestyle. Not only is it mentally and physically beneficial, but you will get to meet new people and make strong bonds with your teammates that can result into a lifelong friendship.

Track and field has taught me a lot, not only did it reveal to me all the potential I had but also it’s made me a better person. It has taught me many skills that I can use in daily life. I’ve  learn to be more responsible, not only for myself, but for everyone around me.

Time management is a major thing while doing a sport in high school. Getting off from practice at 5:30, it doesn’t give me a lot of time to do all my homework or anything else I have to do so I really take advantage of the Grizzly Learning Center (GLC).

All students should consider joining a sports team. It encourages you to stay on top of your school work and leads a more healthy life.

Gunderson High School offers fourteen different sport programs including both varsity and junior varsity. Some of the sports offered are volleyball, softball, basketball and my personal favorite track and field.

So even if track and field doesn’t interest you, there is something else out there for you. It definitely won’t be easy but it’s possible to succeed in a school but while doing a sport.
